Voglia di mettersi in gioco, desiderio di conoscere persone nuove e di arricchire il proprio curriculum con un’esperienza internazionale unica. Sono le motivazioni necessarie per potersi candidare come Student Ambassador Eciu. Un’occasione offerta a studenti e studentesse dell’Università di Trento. L’obiettivo è diventare promotori e promotrici di un’alleanza europea che vede insieme 14 università di altrettanti paesi unite dall'obiettivo comune di avere un impatto reale sulla società. Chiara Bifolchetti è stata la prima ambasciatrice Eciu per UniTrento. A UniTrentoMag racconta la sua esperienza. E invita a non lasciarsi sfuggire questa opportunità.
Per la nostra intervista si collega da remoto da Stavanger, Norvegia, dove si trova per un impegno di Eciu, essendo lei non solo Student ambassador ma anche Student rapresentative all’interno dell’Eciu Council. Sta terminando gli studi di Giurisprudenza e dalle sue parole traspaiono tutto l’entusiasmo, l’energia, la soddisfazione e l’orgoglio di far parte di questo progetto ambizioso di creare un’università dal cuore europeo. Perché è questo l’obiettivo di Eciu. Progettare e realizzare un ecosistema basato su una collaborazione aperta e inclusiva tra docenti, ricercatori, studenti, staff amministrativo ed esternal stakeholders (enti pubblici e privati), chi studia per fornire risposte europee alle future sfide sociali. «Le possibilità che offre Eciu – dice Chiara – sono irripetibili. È una rete europea unica nel suo genere. Il suo obiettivo è realizzare una didattica innovativa, con un’offerta all’avanguardia e a lungo termine. Si lavora con gruppi multidisciplinari, con persone che studiano materie diverse tra loro. Si mette in pratica quello che si studia. Una cosa che sarà utile anche per il futuro». Una comunità in cui si lavora in modo creativo per risolvere problemi in modo imprenditoriale e innovativo. La didattica tradizionale qui non trova posto. «Si lavora con micromoduli e challenges» spiega ancora Chiara. Gruppi di studenti e studentesse di diversi paesi europei che lavorano insieme e si confrontano sui temi che oggi sono al centro dell’agenda politica. Per risolvere le sfide della vita reale e far sentire la loro voce su questioni attuali legate alle sfide della società e all’università del futuro. «Periodicamente c’è la possibilità di partecipare a queste challenges che impegnano a trovare soluzioni e nuove strade da percorrere su tantissime tematiche, tra le quali la transizione ecologica, l’innovazione tecnologica, tematiche sociali, l’economia circolare, la mobilità sostenibile. Oltre a questo, partecipare a Eciu è un’opportunità da non perdere per chi non ha la possibilità di partecipare all’Erasmus perché propone una short mobility all’estero». Ma cosa fa uno Student Ambassador? «Lavora su due piani. Il primo è a livello locale. Si impegna a promuovere e a far conoscere la realtà di Eciu all’interno del proprio ateneo e le possibilità di mobilità breve che offre. Poi lavora a livello centrale con gli altri Student Ambassadors delle altre università dell’alleanza. Lo scopo è di poter collaborare allo sviluppo di Eciu a livello più ampio, trovare metodi di lavoro comuni per migliorare il progetto». E poi ci sono gli incontri, i viaggi, le iniziative. Gli insegnamenti che si portano a casa, nel proprio bagaglio personale, saranno utili non solo a livello professionale. «Con questa esperienza ho imparato ad approcciarmi alle persone con cui realizzare un lavoro comune che hanno background diversi, che la pensano in maniera diversa da te, provenienti da altri paesi e con abitudini diverse rispetto alla didattica o allo studio e alla vita universitaria. Si deve lavorare insieme per capire quello che è meglio per realizzare un progetto comune. È una bella sfida incentrata sul confronto, che richiede capacità di negoziazione. Mi ha fatto capire quante skills richiede il team working. Di fare un viaggio con il sostegno economico dell’università, il che non è male! Ho conosciuto tante persone e creato amicizie internazionali. Abbiamo creato una community che resta per sempre». Accanto ai momenti lavorativi più impegnativi, non sono mancati quelli di svago, divertenti, da ricordare. Come quella volta a Kaunas (Lituania). «Eravamo all’Eciu Forum, a Kaunas in Lituania. Dopo la restituzione finale hanno messo la canzone “Pedro” di Raffaella Carrà e abbiamo iniziato a ballare e a farci selfie – studenti e studentesse, docenti, membri dello staff che erano lì e persino il rettore della KTU. Ci siamo divertiti moltissimo». Un progetto di questo tipo serve anche a rafforzare un sentimento di appartenenza europeo. «Sì. Improvvisamente non ti trovi più all’Università di Trento ma sei in un network con altre persone che, come te, parlano di un’università comune. Ti fa sentire quanto è bello essere cittadini europei». Passa anche da qui dunque, la spinta verso il cambiamento. E sentirsi parte attiva di questo processo non ha prezzo. «Essere Student Ambassador di Eciu aiuta a fare un'esperienza diretta con la possibilità di contribuire a un reale cambiamento sociale. A dire “Wow! Sto facendo la mia parte per creare qualcosa di più grande”. Come parte della prima coorte di ambasciatori ho sentito di aver messo una pietra di un muro che altre persone dopo di me continueranno a costruire». A breve scade il mandato di Chiara come Student ambassador Eciu e ci sarà una nuova call per prendere il suo posto. Quest’anno potranno essere selezionate due persone. Un consiglio e un invito a partecipare arrivano proprio da lei. «Questa è un’occasione unica se si vuole rendere più internazionale il proprio curriculum e conoscere persone da tutta Europa. Inoltre, vi invito tutti a prendere parte alle iniziative di Eciu! Basta iscriversi e creare un proprio account online e si ricevono oltre ai crediti formativi, anche delle micro credenziali. Si tratta di un nuovo approccio europeo per la valutazione delle skills che in questo modo vengono certificate e riconosciute in tutta Europa».

This is what it takes to become an Eciu Student Ambassador: a desire to get involved, meet new people and make your CV stand out with a unique international experience. All UniTrento students can apply. The purpose is to become promoters of a European alliance that brings together 14 universities from as many countries united by the common goal of making a real impact on society. Chiara Bifolchetti was the first Eciu ambassador for UniTrento. She tells UniTrentoMag about this experience. And includes a piece of advice: do not to miss this opportunity.
Chiara Bifolchetti, who is a student ambassador but also a student representative within the Eciu Council, is in Stavanger, Norway, for an Eciu engagement, when I call her for this interview. She is finishing her law studies and her words tell of her enthusiasm, energy, satisfaction and pride of being part of this ambitious project that aims to create a university with a European heart. This is the goal of Eciu. To design and implement an ecosystem based on open and inclusive collaboration between faculties, researchers, students, administrative staff and public and private stakeholders, to provide European answers to future social challenges. "The possibilities offered by Eciu – says Chiara – are unique. There are no other European networks like this one. Its goal is to offer innovative teaching with a cutting-edge and long-term offer of courses. We work in multidisciplinary groups, with people who study different subjects. You put into practice what you study. And this will be useful in the future." It's a community where you use your creativity to solve problems in an entrepreneurial and innovative way. There is no room here for conventional teaching and learning. "We work with micromodules and challenges," Chiara explains. Groups of students from different European countries work together and discuss issues that are currently at the centre of the political agenda, they tackle real-life challenges and make their voices heard to build the university of the future. "Periodically, the students are offered the opportunity to participate in a challenge, which means to find solutions to issues in many areas, including the ecological transition, technological innovation, social issues, the circular economy, and sustainable mobility. In addition to this, participating in Eciu is an opportunity not to be missed for those who cannot participate in the Erasmus programme and are looking for short mobilities." But what does a Student Ambassador do? “We work on two levels. At the local level, at UniTrento, I promote and disseminate information about Eciu and the short mobility opportunities it provides. At Eciu level I work closely with the Student Ambassadors from the other universities of the alliance. Our goal is to collaborate to facilitate the development of Eciu, to find common working methods to develop the project." And I have to participate in meetings and to travel. The lessons that I learn become part of my experience and will be useful at personal and professional level. "Thanks to this experience, I have learned to collaborate with people from different backgrounds and different opinions, who come from other countries and have a different culture in terms of teaching and learning and university life. We must work together to understand what is best to achieve through a common project. Discussion plays a key role, and to succeed you need some negotiation skills. This made me understand that team work requires different skills, and I had the chance to travel with the financial support of the university, which is not bad! I have met many people and have met some new friends from other countries. We have created a community, and that will last forever." Work can be demanding, but there are times when we can relax and have fun, make memories that you will never forget. Like that time in Kaunas. "We were at the Eciu Forum in Kaunas, Lithuania. After the final restitution they played the song "Pedro" by Raffaella Carrà and we started dancing and taking selfies – students, teachers, staff members who were there and even the rector of KTU. We had a lot of fun." Such a project also serves to strengthen a sense of European belonging. "Yes, of course. Suddenly you are no longer at the University of Trento but in a network with other people who, like you, talk about a common university. It makes you feel how beautiful it is to be European citizens." That is why the road towards change also passes through this. And being an active part of this process is priceless. "Being an Eciu Student Ambassador helps you to have first-hand experience with the possibility of contributing to real social change. To say Wow! I'm doing my part to create something bigger." As part of the first cohort of ambassadors, I feel that I have laid the foundations for a house that other people after me will continue to build." Chiara's term as Eciu Student Ambassador expires soon and there will be a new call to find someone to take her place. This year, two people will be selected.
